All good things have to end, right?? So, shall we end the last assignment for Media Culture??

Alright !! here comes the topic...*act serious for the first and last time*

It’s typical for a new technology to be adapted within a culture and used to support existing patterns of behavior. With your own relevant examples, answer these questions.
1) What kind of culture influences through technology can you see from today’s world?

A lot of things has changed nowadays due to internet culture. For example, with the availability of online banking service, we don't have to travel all the way to the bank just to transfer our money to other account. It's easy, fast and safe. Furthermore, most of us, especially students like us had completely abandoned television. Why i said like that? It is because we don't have a television here since we're living in at the so-called intelligent city, Cyberjaya. So, entertainment can only be obtained via internet using our desktop or laptop.(YES !! CyberTracker !!!) It's more fun and interesting than watching a television since we can download whatever we want to watch or just watch them on youtube or download from the 1 n only CyberTracker. Plus, we don't have to watch those long, boring commercials in between the show. In the end, we got used to this kind of lifestyle and won't even bother to switch on the television even though we're at home. But sometimes we will open the television due to boring-ness XD...SMS is also 1 of the technology that carry cultural influences but internet has more influences then SMS...so i didnt talk about SMS ^^

2) Is there a possibility to reshape the (new) culture today via new technology, How?

Reshape...Let's see...Reshape...Hmmm......There is a possibility for a new culture to reshape through a new technology....(something new can recreate something new...what am i talking here??) Any new culture in the world are somehow indirectly dependent to technology.....For example, in ancient Egyptians rely on the technology of carving as part of education culture of that time.(build pyramid and carve those weird weird but nice drawing on the wall) This was due to the absence of proper writing or recording methods other than using chisels(i think is spell like this...what is the carving knife call??) to carve informations onto a slate of hard clay. Education culture during this time was limited only to nobles and rich people back then because of the technology back then. This proved that technology can shape culture. Therefore, if a new technology, such as an improved and advanced computer-like mobile phone,the so-called iphone XD and the current modern culture would reshape accordingly to adapt to the functions brought by the new technology. The society might would not even realize that a change in culture had happened.

Phew...and here comes the last comment i can do for the class....T.T

As i said every good things has to come to an end.....in class, as usual lor....sometimes silent....sometimes noisy...and miss helena's word...i start to don't want believe already...cause her 5 minutes is like erm......15 minutes?? well...who cares so much since the lecturer just announs the blog assignment will be the last this week....so everyone is like "HAPPY MOOD" and like a normal noisy class....i'm also one the noisy 1 in the class XD even a little children know how to online !!!

Power of Nightmare ??

OK !!! Let's start the class !!! *yawn....*

The documentary entitled "The Power of Nightmares (Part 3 - Shadow in the Cave)" by Adam Curtis was shown in class on Monday. How do you relate the information given to you in the documentary to the theory of Media Imperialism that we talked about in lecture?

As we know, Media Imperialism is the idea that the powerful and wealthy countries can exercise economic, cultural and social control over others through control of media industries. It also can be definate as a theory stating that smaller countries are losing their identity due to the force-feeding of media from larger nations. Media imperialism is not just seen internationally. When large amounts of media output are produced by just a few, or even one company, then this too is media imperialism.

Media imperialism coverage of the larger nations has been criticized as having blanket coverage of the world's events. Its content may be affected by the ability to control the content and amount of media coverage on a particular issue. "The Power of Nightmares" video clearly demonstrates that the nightmare vision of a powerful, united terrorist organization waiting to strike our societies is largely an illusion.

i manage to come to class after the so-called RECORD BREAKING LAN PARTY...PARTY...PARTY (huh!??!why got echo 1??)...of cause...i went to class like a wondering zombie....and i found out that the class is DAM DAM DAM EMPTY !!! aaa...nvm la~~so Miss Helena use up 15 minutes to give lecture...which is the BAD news....and HERE COMES THE GOOD NEWS..... 1hour++ video about OSAMA boom America...and BUSH wants OSAMA death....lalala~~i m kind of happy cause this issue is bring up again....and i m a person that like something go BOOM !!! (YA..DESTROY EVERYTHING !!!)~~~but i fall a sleep seriously !!! Of cause....this video is sooo interesting...i just sleep a while then wake up...then me n my friends are discussing when this video ends....and thx GOD it ends in an almost i called NICE way !!! (finally i ger my sleep !!) BOOM !!! I LIKE IT !!!

Here comes the topic of the day !!!

Using McLuhan's "Tetrad of Media" (see diagram below), choose a medium or media application or tool (e.g. newspaper, books, radio, tv, film, internet, computer games, handphone, instant messaging, blogging, online advertising, youtube, facebook etc.) and explain its media effects? Please refer to Week 9's lecture notes plus your own research to discuss this topic.

Alright.....as we know that blog is a type of website that usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as selling item or video. According to my best online friend, the Wikipedia, some blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject and most of the blogs are personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

Now, people can exchange their ideas and thinking through blogs but one of the blog's reverses is diary has been taken over by blogging. People would not write diary with hand writing anymore. Also, People can’t get their point across because sometimes their reader can’t read the feelings and expressions on the author’s face when posting on the internet. This may made people lose the desire to write. Blog need to keep it constantly updated otherwise people will lose potential readers too. So, it is easy to start, but hard to maintain.

I think is enough for the blog thing...as same as blog, internet is the most advance and fastest medium for us to seach for the information and communicate to others. The Internet is a virtual treasure trove of information. Any kind of information on any topic under the sun is available on the Internet. There is a huge amount of information available on the internet and the list is end less. The search engines like Google, Yahoo, Baidu, Sogou is at our service on the Internet. We can find almost any kind of subject that we are looking for. Besides that, the foremost target of internet has always been the communication. We can communicate in a fraction of second with a person who is sitting in the other part of the world. There are plenty messenger services in offering like MSN, Yahoo Messenger, e-Buddy and so on. With the help of such services, we can easily chat for hours with our loved ones, communicate with friends and share our thoughts. Internet provided entertainment too. We can downloading games, film and movies, music, animation, online advertising, and visiting chat rooms by using internet. All of these may be downloaded from the internet for free. This is why many people prefer to surf the Internet.

Huhu...although internet is commonly use today but.....*shaking fist* there is disanvantages of internet such as facing grave danger as our personal information such as name, address, and telephone number can be accessed by other culprits to make your problems worse and another example of the internet's disanvantages is the virus threat. (I hate u ,Stupid VIRUS !!!)

yosh !!! time for comment...for....the...class.....actually today's class was sooo un-energytic....ya...Mr.Radzi Bedu's slide is kind of LONG !!! and i feel annoyed cause i m not the type that can sit down and stay still for like 2 hours hearing people talking !!! According to my "trusted online information friend", Wikipedia, obscenity in Latin obscenus, meaning foul, repulsive, detestable and obscenity is a term that is most often used in a legal context to describe expressions (words, images, actions) that offend the prevalent sexual morality of the time, the most common word :F U !!(you guys should know). It is often replaced by the word salaciousness. Obscenity also can definate as the state or quality of being obscene.

Let's go to Pornography~~~Pornography or porn is the explicit depiction of sexual subject matter with the sole intention of sexually exciting the viewer. It is to a certain extent similar to erotica, which is the use of sexually arousing imagery. Over the past few decades, an immense industry for the production and consumption of pornography has grown, due to emergence of the VCR, the DVD, and the Internet, as well as the emergence of social attitudes more tolerant of sexual portrayals.Indecency's meaning is the state or quality of being unseemly or immodest.

Indecency is not sociocultural standars of behaviour and speech. It can definate as something indecent, lack of modesty, taste, or propriety.The differences between these terms are obscene used with a sexual connotation, to mean profanity, taboo, indecent, abhorrent, or disgusting. Pornography is treated as a separate entity, both culturally and legally, from depictions of naked persons in art or photography. Pornography may use any of a variety of printed media, like sculpture, drawing, animation, film, or video. While indecency, by speech or writing, present to the ear or the eye of modesty any of the indecencies people allude to, are pests of society. It is an offense against delicacy.

after the sem break, i come back...of cause is happy to meet back all the classmate...then is already 9.20am, i didnt see Mr.Radzi or Miss Helena's shadow....so i was joking with my friend said that the lecturer is rush back to cyberjaya from their hometown....guess what happen?? after i finish telling my friend, Mr. Radzi Bedu appear XD....then suddenly i sense some bad news coming when Mr.Radzi Bedu said got 1 bad news and 1 "GOOD" news.....the real news i wont tell...i tell my version of my bad news and "GOOD" news.....

Media Literacy, the law for FCM ???

What is Media Literacy and why is it important for you as FCM students to have it?

According to the explanation from Wikipedia, it says that media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read.

and from (http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/teachers/media_literacy/key_concept.cfm) ,there are 8key concepts in media literacy:

1. All media are construction-media are the products of many carefully constructed judgment.

2. The media construct reality-media are responsible for our views on reality due to the pre-constructed interpretations built in media messages.

3. Audiences negotiate meaning in the media-media provides us with material which we use to build our picture of reality and negotiate meaning according to individual factors.

4. Media have commercial implications-most media production is a business. Therefore, a small number of individual control what we watch , read and hear in the media.

5. Media contain ideological and value messages-all media products are advertising and convey a certain ideological message.

6. Media have social and political implications-media has great influence on forming political and social changes.

7. Form and content are closely related in the media-each media has its own way of broadcasting their meassages.

8. Each medium has a unique aesthetic form-we ought to enjoy the different pleasing forms and effects of media.

It is important for us FCM student to have this media literacy because in public media, there have been personal ideation, politics propaganda and many other messages that may be misleading and negative which may distract our thinking process.(just like the anime gundam seed or seed destiny, state that human should fight to get peace) So, as one of the part in media world, we have the responsibilities to analyze and filtering the information, providing the information that is useful and beneficial to the society and community.(once again, like the anime Busou Renkin, although the order from the high is important but there are even more important thing and that is friendship) Another critical thinking about the importance of a FCM student to have media literacy is so they can understand better how different media types works in presenting the ideas and thoughts to their targeted consumer. Such as, what factor did online media used in persuading their viewers what they see is actually true without having the chance of actually been there, touch it, felt it, see it and heard it. It helps us alot in media production works.

Ohya~~i have 1 anime that is best to show the media literacy thoery !! The anime is "Gintama". At the 1st episode or your 1st glaze to this anime, you sure-ly said this: "What is this anime all about ?!?!?" Well...let me explain...Gintama actually kind of don't have any storyline 1....it actually telling us to be good, resposible, loyal etc etc. Gintoki(Gintama main charater) often said "manga/comic or anime is bad for us...i should quit as soon as possible but it keep pulling me back"<-----This is true !!! it happens to me too XD

ok~~~is time for the class comment~~~

well~~~i go to the class normally and saw all the student sitting down on the floor chatting thx to the security who put a weird sign state "dilarang masuk"(is a note-book for god sake !!!)~~eham~~~Today, Madam Helena lecture us about Media Representation and Cultural Stereotype !!! Due to everyone is in "sleepy mode", Madam Helena have no choice but throw some jelly kind of thingy to us and the thing fall on who...that person muz go out explain what is stereotype. This cause me to remember my sem 1 when she also use this idea(but is a ball !!) to force us to share something(what is that topic?? forget already~~ohya !! is the future of media)~~and thank to her *coughbadthrowingskillandbadaimingcough* ,the process stop after zhi han(my friend go out n share) then i go out volunteer(ya...this time is really volunteer, not like sem 1 kena misunderstood). We were also treated to a few short videos on cultural stereotype that, gave the audience a few good laughs.(2 mosquito bites and 2 inch long) Personally, this week’s class was the most enjoyable one this sem. More video !!! but less throwing please~~or else the ceiling will break down 1 day...XD
Air Gear is an anime created to encourage teenager to skate. ^^Personally, 1 of my favourite anime !!! ALL TIME FAVOURITE !!
Gundam Seed: same is human being but need to fight each other to gain peace.
Busou Renkin: although is warrior that in mission but they still focus on friendship.
Gintama: an anime full of weird act but teaching us the good thing in life.

Give a very short basic explanation of what media stereotype is?

From your personal experience, what other media stereotype you have seen either on TV or in the movies?

Media stereotype is very common in advertising and broadcasting industries. It will give the audiences a common view or understanding of a person relating to their gender, race, or occupation which will cause social prejudice, discrimination and inequality within a society.

well~~i hate to said this but i still need to said it out cause is the truth !!! Cartoons or so-called "anime" today can be considered to represent the peak of generalizations. Artifacts and accents are used to represent a character, often by its nationality. In cartoons, we can see stereotypes and discrimination in their most extreme form, much more extreme than in drama motion pictures. The influence of stereotypes in cartoons becomes more pronounced in cultures where the society is homogeneous and undiversified. 

and now-a-days, war cartoons were another type of image took over the screens in the twentieth century. War cartoons are one of the media stereotypes. Stereotypes and symbols are very apparent. The practice of using war enemies in cartoons was acceptable to most of the film-going public. The cartoons simply reinforced the audience’s existing feelings about these groups of people. For example: Mobile Suit Gundam Series which is the MOST popular WAR anime or cartoon ever shown on the EARTH.

Due to I am an anime+comic freak, I hate to admit but i need to cause this is the fact. Comics is one of the media stereotypes that I have seen. Comics may satirise politics or social in their own way to vent out their's unstatisfied. Comics also can influece the thinking of the audience and give a quick, common understanding to the audience.

ehamm~~This Week is a holiday monday...actually i also don't know why is the reason...my friend and lecturer said monday is a holiday...then my mind goes : they said holiday i also holiday la~~~ahahahaha~~~ so nothing much can said also...cause i fall sick on monday...hahaha~~so..nothing i can said about the class ^^

for the 1st time i write a blog post which don't have pictures on it...so forgive me for that. This problem occurs all thx to my rental house's internet and my computer which choose the best time to be unable to online or so-called "spoiled"~~sorry ya~~
